WE CAN MOVE
We CAN-Move is an exercise referral programme designed specifically for adults (16 years+) who have been affected by cancer. The programme provides cancer patients with opportunities to be active including access to personalised exercise programmes delivered by experts in exercise and wellbeing.
Being physically active after a cancer diagnosis is linked to better cancer outcomes for many cancers, it can also help to improve post-operative outcomes and reduce the chance of cancer recurrence for a wide range of cancers.
For example, evidence suggests that women that complete the recommended minimum amount of physical activity each week had an over 40% lower risk of overall mortality, breast cancer specific mortality, and breast cancer recurrence when compared to women that are active for less than 1 hour a week.
Studies suggest this isn't isolated to breast cancer. The numbers may be as high as 50% for colorectal and prostate cancer too! Exercise is medicine!
