I’m the Leisure Manager for the Active Communities team. I’ve always played sport and been active and I got my first coaching role and qualifications at 19. Due to injuries I am now involved in the delivery of sessions including schools, grassroots sport and out in the community.
1 How long have you worked for North Northamptonshire Council for?
I’ve worked for NNC since its inception, having previously worked at Kettering Borough Council since 2017. I was originally part of the Communities team before moving across to Leisure.
2 What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Coming from a coaching and delivery background I love helping individuals and groups enjoy the benefits of sport and physical activity. Seeing someone gain confidence or independence through exercise is always satisfying. If I can help someone develop a new skill or improve their ability in an activity then that is a bonus. Now being part of a team that delivers great events and sessions throughout the year makes me feel like I’m doing something worthwhile.
3 How do you unwind after work?
With a young family at home I don’t get a lot of time to myself, but I like to exercise to clear my mind – cricket, running or taking the dog for a walk while listening to a podcast are all great to reset. I like to put sport on the TV – rugby, cricket or football mostly – but I’m also a bit of a sci-fi/fantasy geek so will quite happily find a new boxset to watch.
4 Which flavour of ice cream do you prefer?!
Mint choc chip or stracciatella.
