Get up and Go exercise classes

North Northamptonshire Leisure deliver 5 weekly classes across North Northamptonshire and the sessions are part of the County-wide falls prevention Get Up and Go (GUAG) programme managed by Northamptonshire Sport.

What are the classes?

Get Up and Go (GUAG) exercise classes are aimed at anyone who has a fear of falling, is at risk of falling or who has had a fall.

The County GUAG falls prevention programme is in response to the high percentage rates of falls and hospital admissions identified in North Northamptonshire, many of which could be prevented if patients had the opportunity to regularly participation in strength and balance improving exercise.

The GUAG classes aim to:

•Reduce falls and hospital admissions due to falls

•Support rehabilitation of those that have had falls and other long term health conditions

•Improve balance, co-ordination and strength

Many of the class participants live alone and the sessions are a life-line, being a way of making friends, chatting with others and getting out of the house.

The classes include OTAGO proven and recommended exercises which involve seated and standing movements to help improve strength, balance, mobility and confidence with walking and everyday tasks.

All of the exercise classes are delivered by fully qualified OTAGO exercise instructors. Each exercise class consists of a warm up, some mobility, strength and balance components followed by seated stretching to finish before tea/coffee and biscuits with time to socialise.
