Celebrating World Mental Health Day with NNLeisure

Prioritising Mental Wellbeing through Fitness and Community

World Mental Health Day, celebrated on October 10th, serves as a vital reminder of the importance of mental health for individuals and communities across the globe. At NNLeisure, we’re committed to providing spaces and activities that contribute to both your physical fitness and mental health.

The Link Between Physical Activity and Mental Health

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity can significantly improve mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Engaging in physical activity releases endorphins, which are natural mood elevators. Beyond the physical benefits, exercise also helps improve sleep patterns and boost self-esteem, both of which are essential for maintaining a positive mental state.

At NNLeisure, we recognise this crucial connection and offer a wide range of activities designed to nurture both your body and mind.

Activities Available To Support Mental Wellbeing

1. Activity Buddy Scheme

Staying motivated can be tough, especially when it comes to fitness. That’s where NNLeisure’s Activity Buddy Scheme comes in. Pairing up with an activity buddy supports your fitness goals and social interaction - a key element in combating loneliness and improving mood. Having someone by your side encourages positive relationships and builds a support network, both of which are essential for mental health. Our website provides further information find out more.

2. Swimming

Swimming is often referred to as a "complete" workout. The rhythmic movements, combined with the calming sensation of water, can have a soothing effect on the mind. Swimming not only works every muscle group but also encourages mindfulness, helping you stay present and focus on your breathing. It’s an ideal exercise for anyone seeking to unwind while staying active. We have different sessions available at Corby East Midlands International Pool, please visit our website to learn more.

3. Wellbeing Walks

Nature walks are a simple yet effective way to decompress. Wellbeing walks are designed to combine light physical activity with mindfulness in natural surroundings. The peaceful environment allows for moments of reflection and relaxation, making these walks a perfect addition to your mental health routine. With over 20 walks across North Northamptonshire, please take a look at the schedule available on the website.
